Action resumes in Shandi

After one day of rest, action resumes at Al-Shandi stadium with Dkhill (Djibouti) playing Defence (Ethiopia) in a match that will see the Djibouiti side out of the tourney if they lose this fixture. Dkhill lost 2-1 to Al-Shandi in the opening game of Group C played on Friday. This group will only have two clubs advancing to the knockout stages.

Musonye toughens on discipline

CECAFA Secretary General Nicholas Musonye has sounded a strong warning to all players and officials against any acts of indiscipline that may violate the tournament rules and regulations. Musonye’s act comes barely one day after the Al-Merreikh player BassirouBamba was substituted and walked off the pitch direct into the dressing room. The CECAFA organizing committee has already sent a warning letter to the club.

No Doctor for AFC Leopard

Despite winning their game 2-0 against Etincelles from Rwanda Kenya’s AFC Leopards walked into the tournament without an official team Doctor/physiotherapist, a situation that warranted a volunteer from Police FC of Zanzibar, Dr.Mohamed Said to rescue them on their first match day.

There are up to now no clear explanations as to why a club that even recently competed in the CAF Confederations Cup could take such a risk of travelling without a medic.

CECAFA in conjunction with the tournament sponsors provided tickets for a delegation of 25 people for each participating club. At least five of these had to be officials.

Victoria’s Ssemakula ruled out!

Uganda representatives Victoria University will go into today’s action against hosts Al-Merreikh without Noah Ssemakula who picked up a crucial injury during their first game against Malakia of South Sudan. The Ugandan side that travelled without three of their key players-Dennis Iguma, Daniel Ssekabembe and SavioKabugo take on a more composed and experienced side that boosts of several foreign players from Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Ghana. The winner goes top of the Group A table.
